98 Explorer 5.0 block
One of the shops I sell to at work has a 98 Explorer that was rolled and totaled out and I have the chance to get the engine and rear axle out of it. Besides the GT40P heads and upper and lower intake is there anything else I can use off the engine? What I'm really curious about is if I could use the block to build my 331stroker setup. Is the Explorer block a roller, and would it even be worth it to try and use the block? I know there are plenty of other 5.0 blocks out there but you can't beat something for free.

Well the guy who owns the shop is giving me the engine and rear for free, its got a bit over 70k on it. So theres no difference in the Explorer block from a Mustang block? Hmm. Im guessing the Explorer engine has low comp pistons though doesn't it?

You have the gt40p's on your setup, did you have to run stiffer valve springs with the steeda #19 cam? And what do you mean by your stock brace didn't fit? Your just talking about the factory strut tower brace on 94-95 GT's right?

yes you need stiffer springs trickflow has a nice setup with retainers for 120.00 from summit. I also needed longer pushrods, wich im waiting for hopefully i get itin tommorow and fire this baby up. The factory strut tower brace didnt fit because the gt40 intake is from the explorer
wich is taller thanthe stock one.

take off the strut brace....you won't notice any difference at all, at least I didn't
I think there is a company that makes them to fit over aftermarket intakes if you are dead set on keeping it
