Default front rotors how hard to remove?

my brakes are gettin low and i will be needin to replace the pads very soon. For a while now i've been considering gettin drilled or slotted rotors and semi-mettalic pads. but i need to know how much of a pain in the *** it will be to get the rotors off, as i have never done them before. any info would be great.

Im pretty sure they just slide off....the tire and the lugnuts hold the rotor secure.

You need to remove the caliper and set it aside. Hang it with some wire not by the brake line. Then you need to take the bearing cap off then the cotter pin, then you need to remove th spindle nut, then the washer, and then the bearing, then the rotor should slide off taking the inner bearing with it. You should get new bearings, and seal because you can't put an old seal in a new rotor. Repack the bearings then reverse procedure.

Make sure during the install you don't over torque the bearings and you get them seated properly. If they are to tight it will burn the new bearings up.

instead of new rotors buy a set of 73mm calipers from an 86 svo...you will see a hugh difference for under 55.00.....

Well,
1. I don't suggest getting drilled and slotted rotors.
2. It's fairly easy, follow 86HOGT's directions and you'll do fine.
3. Make sure you use NEW cotter pins, don't reuse the old ones.
4. As mustang8719 said, don't overtighten the nut holding in the bearings, BUT, do NOT leave it too loose! It shouldn't spin freely THAT much, it should be just at the point where you can spin it freely, but it should stop spinning in only a FEW revolutions, if it keeps spinning and seems free, it's too loose. When they are too loose, it actually would wobble a little while driving, this wobbling will be pushing your caliper piston back in a little and you'll find yourself pumping the brake pedal constantly on your travel, you'll check for proper bleeding of the system and find it to be fine but the pedal will keep getting deeper on you. So you need to get it not too loose but not too tight... Kind of a thin line, but it isn't that hard.

well my rotors are on thier way out as well, i could probably try to get them turned but i'd just as soon upgrade the slotted or drilled will allow the gases a way out and they will leave me with peace of mind when all is said and done, i will try to upgrade my calipers from a svo but getting those parts could prove to be less than worth while cause i seem to get the run around when lookin for quality used parts for my car, and i just wind up buyin everything new so i can fully trust it. I'll look into the calipers but i'm definately upgrading my rotors and pads.

I still strongly suggest AGAINST drilled and slotted rotors...
