Looking at some hoods but.

RE: Looking at some hoods but.
best reason to go with a hinged type hood is that the lift off kind can get blown around by the wind when it ain't on the car. saw one at the strip some years ago with a real nice paint job on it, the guy had laid the hood on top of the car as he had some foam pads glued to the bottom side of it to protect the paint on the car roof. he was looking around the engine when a sudden gust of wind blew up and lifted the hood right off the roof and deposited it shiny side down on the asphalt and blew it about 30 feet across the pavement before the guy even knew what had happened. needless to say, the paint job on the hood was ruined!!!

Mine is not painted but it still pisses me off when I have it leaning against the fence or somewhere when I'm working on it and it blows over like a dried up leaf!

I think even if you get a hinged hood, you should still get hood pins if it is fibreglass so there's no chance of it blowing off on you at high speeds, fiberglass hoods are quite light...

I have a lift off hood and I don't like it. I wish I had a hinged hood instead.
It gets frustrating undoing 10 zeus fasteners every stinking time you need to get under the hood....especially when you're testing & tuning.
BTW, you can take a lift off hood off by yourself....mine is about 5-8lbs...very light.
Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money on the hinge hood.

RE: Looking at some hoods but.
I ran it only once last year after I rebuilt the engine. At the time, I had 2:73 gears, 7.5 rearend with an open differential(one wheel spins), no subframes and street tires(225/60/15).
My best was a 13.56@105mph. Since then I added an 8.8 rearend with the 4:10 gears, rebuilt trac-loc, subframe connecters and I'm about ready to order some M/T E.T slicks.
That should put me solidly in the mid 12's.
I knew I wasn't going to run to my full potential but I was anxious to see what kind of engine I had put together since it was my first rebuild.
I think mid 13's with crappy gears, no trac-loc and street tires isn't bad.
I can't wait until I get back to the track in the spring!!
