87 5.0 gt is it an interferance or non interferance
sorry guys but im newto mustangs. i have had alot of ricers and know how to work just bought my first 5.0 gt its an 87 and a week later my timing chain broke broke the timing chain cover the serpentine belt and put a nice hole in the oil pan i just need to know if my car is an interferance motor or not so that i will know wether or not to pull apart the engine n check the pistons and valves but hopefully not because ive had to replace valves n **** on my civic because it was an interferance motor so please help

Just set #1 piston to TDC and line he pointson the cam and crank anyour good, and make sure you don't have to much lash on the rockersan distributor to #1 as well

well i guess im not going to be fixing this motor but looking for some kind of stock replacement or remanufactured engine when i finally got the timing chain cover off i could see that big *** chunks of the bottom of the block were broken off so now i have to try n save some money to get my car going again

sorry to hear what happen, well ive had botch kinds of cars and swapped civic motors and i can tell you that a 5.0 is easier to swap in and out, it goes much smoother in and out. good luck and welcome to the forum. keep us posted

the #1 main journal is a weak point on small block fords....... sometimes sh*t just happens[>:]
if your junk yard shopping see if you can find a mid to late 90's explorer with a 5.0 so you end up with the gt40 or gt40p heads, and the better intake.

Look around for a used shortblock. With $1500 you can do a build with used parts, that will be much better than a reman. longblock. I guess i am a dumbass, but can someone tell me what a interferance engine is.
