Water pump sealing tips?

RE: Water pump sealing tips?
Hey all...well the pump seals fine, but the lower radiator hose is leaking for some reason. It only leaks after you turn the car off. It somehow gets past the clamp, bubbles out and runs down the hose. Currently waiting for the car to cool down so I can put the new hose on.

FYI - Napa water pumps suck. The reason the lower hose was leaking was becuase there's a significantly noticeable casting ridge that runs along the bottom of the lower water pump snout. So I bought some new hoses, some new clamps (that you tighten with a socket/screwdriver). I put a thick bead of silicone along the ridge, put the hose on, clamped those mother****ers down as hard as I could. Going to wait a few hours for the silicone to cure before I dare filling it up with coolant.

probably isn't going to work, if you have a big ridge sticking out where it seals. if you can get any kind of a grinder in there, go to town on it. be gentle though, heat buildup from grinding it too hard will crack it.

I'm going to try everything I can to get it to seal. I used a file to grind down as much of the ridge on the little lip as I could. Dammit, this ****ing car just won't cooperate with me. I think I'm going to sell it by the end of the summer.

I guess thats true. The problem is I'm goign away to school and I won't have a lot of time, other than what I can spare on the weekends, to come home and work on it. It makes me mad that I finally got the pump to seal and this ****ing casting is screwing me over now.

lesson learned. should have inspected the casting before you installed.
there is always going to be defective parts out there. sometimes, you get them. can't be avoided, just dealt with.
