Default weight problems in the snow?

I have an 88 lx hatch . Wondering if adding weight to the back such as sand bags or something even helps. Will I even notice a difference cause i get stuck in the snow just leaving my street and can't get out into the main road without my tires spinning for like 2 minutes. Anyone here notice a big difference in snow performance when adding weight to the back?

Put about 300 lbs of bags of sand in the trunk. If you still get stuck, you can open one of the bags and spread some of it in front of the tires to get you going.

anything you can do to increase the weight over the rear tires will help with traction in the winter but it will not make the car handle like a 4 wheel drive either. and you can actually add too much weight in the rear and then you will lose traction for steering on the front end, so you have to be carefull how much weight you do add in the rear. bags of sand are a good thing to use as you can always take some sand out and put it on the ice/snow in front of the tires to help get you some traction if you do get stuck. best advice I can give about driving in snow or ice is to use a very light foot on the trottle and brake so as not to spin the tires or cause a skid. it's better to keep up the momentum also so you don't have to stop and you can do this by allowing plenty of room in front of you between your car and other cars on the road so you can anticipate stop lights, etc.
