It's all about oil pressure...do you have a mechanical guage?

dig up a user manual if you don't have one, it'll specify what oils you can use depending on ambient conditions. i've a 94 ranger that i dump 20/50 in during the summers. it has a lot of miles (196k) and is rather worn out so it benefits from the thicker oil.

the risk being that the tolerences inside your motor are a bit too small for the thicker oil and you may end up causing some damage due to a lack of oil. i think it'd be a real bad move on mod motors, but i think the 302's are more forgiving.

Like Monch said, thicker oil can actually do more harm than good in some cases. Your 302 is more likely to do better wth the heavier oil than a 4.6. It can also rob you of a few horsepower.

Been considering this, but I run my car in the spring and fall.
Sometimes it gets mighty cold on those early starts.
Currently running 5w30. I'll find my HP elsewhere.

I love 20w 50.. only for summer time!! But im sure there is better oil out then Havoline these days. I dont think it would hurt but make sure you change it if your oil pressure not normal.
