How wide are the 17" rims that came on the 1995 GTs and what size tire is recomended for them? Thanks for any input.

I believe they are 17x8, and the best would be a 245/45 tire. Anyone feel free to correct me, but I'm pretty sure that's right.

actually they came in a 16X8 and a 17x 8 rim and you can put the 245 wide tire on either the 16 or 17 inch rim.

You could go with 255/45/17 if you don't mind the tires being just a bit taller than OEM (26.0ish OD, the small difference in height will not effect anything unless your car is lowered to the point where you need something smaller).

i have the 16x8's and i put a 255/45/16 and it looks fine and no rubbing problems.
