Default Clutch Question

Earlier this weekmy clutch cable broke ( took it out and it actually broke theend off the cable by the forksbut looks as if it was on it's last legs.. it had been acting "funny" for a week) put a new cable in and drove it maybe 25 km it snapped at the plastic piece going through the firewall.. anyone every experience anything like it? It's isn't the quadrent that broke just where it goes through the firewall.. any suggestions? There is a new throw out bearing in it and the clutch and pressure plate were in great shape when the tranny was out a few weeks ago.

Isn't the plastic piece part of the cable?

Sounds like you need a new cable if that came apart.

Haha No joking. If you knew the story behind the car you'd understand that I havevery ****ty luck... I was just wondering if anyone has ever had a similiar problem possibly something else being my problem. I am a mechanics daughter and a tomboy at heart so I have no problems tacklingthis myself but wondered if anyone could offer any suggestions on did i just have ****ty luck with a faulty new part or could there be something else going on that I can't see.

New parts being faulty is not uncommon. What brand cable did you buy and is there anything out of the ordinary the clutch is doing?

Honestly, didn't look at who manufactured it. Bought it through the parts supplier here so it wasn't OEM. However whenI removed it today the peice that goes through the firewall and broke has airbubbles all through the mouldedplastic which I figure may have been a weak point?

A little aboutmy car:
We are once again the proud owners of an '84 LX Hatchback 5.0L 5spd. We bought her from her original owners in '92 had her until '98 ( kept her original and in mint condition ...sadly decided to sell her in May of '98) Put her on my uncles car lot .. two young guys took her for a test drive on Friday afternoon and the police figure they made keys for her on their test drive ) On Sunday morning she was GONE! His insurance was a 5000 deductible and wouldn't cover it ( we had taken our insurance off her while she was sitting on his lot) .. We had no car and no cash! Police checked into the guys who had her for a drive but of course they "didn't take the car"
GOOD NEWS she was recovered June 22nd, 2006, in Bridgewater NS.. the guy who had the car had her towed to a Mida's garage because he put the clutch out of her...the mechanic noticed she had no VIN in the window and the young guy couldn't give him the VIN (as they enter it when doing any work, he said all of his paperwork was home and he would have it towed to "his buddies and he could fix it" the mechanic was suspicious and alerted police).. she was mint when stolen and for 22 years old and missing for 8 yrs and 1 month she is still in decent shape) I recieved a call from a police dept asking if I had a car stolen .. I said yeah 8 yrs ago, I had a mustang stolen.. the officer says " well you won't believe me but we recovered your car" I said "Seriously? What kind of shape is it in now?" He said " for being 22 yrs old it isn't in bad shape" After the RCMP auto theft unit was finished with it and confirmed the original VIN (on the unibody and the firewall) we were allowed to take her home July 2nd/06 .. we arrived at their impound ....showed proof of original ownership and towed her home...We went right to work at getting her cleaned up and running fine... put her on the road July 13th/06.. i know she was MEANT TO BE MINE! .. She was stolen before she could be sold and found her way back to me after 8 yrs... you can judge for yourself but I think its a damn original story!
