Default losing horsepower?

My car is still mostly stock except for straight pipes. No mufflers and gutted cats. Am I losing horsepower because of no back pressure? My muffler center made me custom H pipes and thats it.

Also what would be the best mods to get in order? Ill prob get 3.73 gears and then a CAI.

My cousin has a 98 4.6l gt. I mostly want to beat him when we race. He's got CAI, magnaflow exhaust and he says hes got a chip. He can eat up 5.0 fox bodies and says he beat camaros until the end of 3rd then they pass him.

What is the best improvements I can do that will keep my car reliable. Dont even say NOS or Turbo or Supercharger.

umm well I do like chinese food but anyways, idk if I lost power or not. It feels like I lost some low end. Idk if its just me but it doesent seem to peel out as easy now but if I drop the clutch at like 4000 it will still spin them easily and about 2000 will churp.

without headers, your car was constipated.
now, by adding on headers, its like giving your engine, that was constipated lactives. you probably lost some low end power/torque, but the gains elsware make up for it.

your gonna lose low end torque and gain upper but theres no point seeing that 5.0's hit a brick wall at 5-5.5k rpm just put some mufflers on it. it will sound better too. and with gears you will beat his car off the line.also you can make turbos and superchargers / nitrous reliable its not difficult

if you did loose any torque in the lower end from the exhaust mods, it probably would no be able to be felt in "the seat of your pants" Try running a compression check and see what you get. How many miles on the motor? Hows your timing?

put some 1 chamber flows on there. will give you a little backpressure yet still flow very well up top. straight pipes sound like sh*t

i could peel through first by easing off the clutch at 1.5K and the flooring it (stock) if you need to get to 4k to do that then you must be loosing something
