i say33-35 spline axles, nice locker, weld the axle tubes, girdle for it, and a nice set of gears and you have a nice rear end setup.

yea the stock axles are the weak points in the 8.8's. But with the upgraded axles, ive actually seen some serious hp cars. like 500-600, with stock carrier units and other stuff last for a good while. Like 30-40runs. [

my 460 runs in the 5's, and i use a moser 35 spline axle with c-clip eliminators and powerglide transmissions, and welded axtle tubes...

umm for a 400-500hp, a 31 would be fine... a 35 spline is rated at 1800 hp, if you want to take ex extra caution u can run a 33.
a stroker isnt exspensive.... 1900 at the most... get a 4.3 stroke to get a 521 or a 528 with a 4.390 bore.
and a 545 with a 4.5 stroke.... it is worth it.. but for what your doing you can get 450 hp with a modded 466

i want to make 450 hp with the stock heads reworked. later on down the road ill build a stroker motor
