5.0 in a 2.3 Hole
If I were to swap out a blown up 2.3 with a 5.0 Motor I know I will need a computer and wiring harness to run it all but will the 2.3's Trans and Rearend boltup with littleto no problem and hold together.....I would only be using this car for a A to B....not for drag or street racing...keeping the revs below 4K and no clutch dumping. Just thought I would ask the experts B4 I got into something and found out that I was screwed.

well i advise you change the rear end atleast!!! the tranny well i dont know but i would just change it all, it'll save it from possible doing it down the road again.
i am doiing the same **** but for a 351w so i NEED to swap it all.

never done it myself, just going off what i've read

5.0 in a 2.3 hole? I had that problem the other night...but me and her worked it out nicely.
As far as your car goes though, the rear is a 7.5 i believe. aka (a piece of sh*t with two wheels at eash end.) so thats going to need to be swapped to a 8.8. Driveshaft probably, may not need, Not to sure. The T5 is weaker from the 2.3 and the pilot bearing is smaller, but i believe you can get one for an early 80's ranger or something like that and it will work fine. Plus the gear ratio's are shorter in the T5, so remember that. But ig you could find a wrecked car, i'd just buy the whole engine/drivetrain out of it with the engine harness and computer. You'd probably be best off just doing that. or carb' it as said above. But good luck with gas if you take that route.

RE: 5.0 in a 2.3 Hole
I had an experince with two 4cyl t-5's the firstwas when it still was my friends car, it lasted him 1 1/2 years before it took a dump but it only had 3000 miles put on itin that time. Then I bought it and the next one (out of a ranger) lasted 3 weeks. It broke the bell housing, twisted the starter off, broke the input shaft in half, broke the trans mount, Broke the U-joint in half, destroyed the clutch, and my favorite itcracked teh center console when it locked down and the driveshaft jerked the trans back and forth making the shifter hit the console. Bottom line the input shaft is thicker and a 4cyl T-5 is rate dat like 70ft lbs oftorque less than a 5.0 makes factory. I've got 20,000 on the V8 T-5 and I beat it daily it holds upalot better.

Damn, i tell you what dude. If you ever moved around here, your dream job would be to work at BMW at the testing facility. You'd do well in that field.

RE: 5.0 in a 2.3 Hole
thats how i did it, lot less headache, i have to disagree on the rear end, my friend was running high 12s on a 7.5 1980 4 banger rearend , but u need to get a differant trans if its a auto, and the pilotshaft is differant on a 4 t5 if i recall and u would need a diff bellhousing and other stuff to the point it would be easier to find a 5.0 t5 but if u go carbbed and get a 5.0 t5 its all gravy

Instead of worrying about all the wiring just carb it. It would probably be cheaper and less work.
