hypereutetic or forged?????

RE: hypereutetic or forged?????
you want flat tops with vavle reliefs for a n/a motor, but with forced induction you want something dished
stock rods are fine, but take my word on this..... use ARP bolts. preferrably the 100.00 set not the 40.00 set. the 5/16 rod bolt is one of the two weak links in the small block ford. the other is the oil pump driveshaft, which you should replace with a hard arp unit cause they are like 20 bucks.
you need to get your rods reconditioned too, and let the shop install the bolts

RE: hypereutetic or forged?????
If you have the money some upgraded rods wouldn't be a bad idea, to get the floating pin setup. It's good insurance with a blower, but not necessary. And yeah, at the very least the good rod bolts and a hardened oil pump shaft. Definately forged pistons for blown/nitrous, hypers tend to not hold up too well under the heat

RE: hypereutetic or forged?????
Summit sells the oil pump drive shaft. They also have the rod bolts.
IMHO, with the cost of rebuilt rods what they are (easy$250 with the good rod bolts) why not just get some new rods? New rods are as little as $200 set.
I'd call Summit and find out what the upgrade to the dished would cost as I'm sure they have them..........

RE: hypereutetic or forged?????
just remember the 200.00 rod sets from summit are gonna have the cheap arp bolts, i just picked up a set of these for my 289 rods which i polished to stress relieve (strange how taking away meat can make them stronger)

these are the best 5/16 bolts you can buy
and btw, there is nothing wrong with speedpro stuff, its pretty much the best bang for the buck stuff out there. sure, there are better forged pistons than the trw/speedpro/federal mogul's but you'll pay close to double and 9 outta 10 people would never know the difference. they do not make crap parts.
