Default easy dumb ?

ok well my car has overheated twice, and i found out we forgot 2 put in the thermostat, so i bought one and put it in..., but i was wondering if i put it in right...does the part sticking up in this picture go towards the back of the car? or does it face the radiator? thanks tyler

well i tried it with this fitting forward and it didnt fit right...mine has a gold **** like thing on the back i didnt think it would go towards the engine? so this part in this pic is the front?

those are the bulky high performance ones and sometimes they have fitment issues they are for improved flow capacity.... a good Stant t-stat should work fine.

I really don't think that that is the cause of your OVERheating! With no T-stat at all the temp will be hard pressed to even get warm. The t-stat's function is to allow the engine to come up to temp quicker for combustion effiency and so it will make heat in the winter. It also keeps the temp at a fairly constant value by opening and closing via the sensor bulb and bi-metal strip. Runing without one will not cause your car to overheat. If it overheats without the t-stat , you have other issues.

What exactly was done to the engine? I'm thinking you have problems elsewhere.

Yeah, it's not the t-stat. Either a clog, wrong waterpump, or too small a radiator, etc.
