yeah even if you have to rebuild it all its worth it... but one thing to keep in mind... to my knowledge 67s didnt have a 302 so i would ask what the motor originally came out of, it could be a 289 and he is just saying its a 5L, as with all purchases just be careful

Its possible SOME LATE 67s MAY have had a 302 in them but im willing to bet you have the 289. Not a bad lil motor tho but they look exactly the same back then and parts do interchange so be careful if you re looking for a 302.

Ill add a few things here.

If it is all original, a 289 would be either an A or a K, its the 5th digit of the VIN. If it was a K it wouldnt be no $250. More like a few thousand. I dont have any info on late 67s with a 302 but they exist.

289 vs 302 bore and stroke. Just the stroke is different.

It's been my understanding that the 289 was used until early '68.
It sort of depended on where the car was built...........
Any of them would be the old flat tappet engines..........

So how would i go about being sure that its a 302? i dont really want to rely on the VIN number because the engine could have been swapped in fromt he original...

The only sure fire way (that i know of) is the block number. Its on the passenger side of the block usually behind the starter. Im sure theres an easier way to know tho, i just dont know what it is. Try over in the Classic forum to, theyll know a lot more than i im sure.
