347 myths and reality
ok, im only 15 but i like to plan way ahead! lol, ok, say you get a good block, like an r302 or somehting, and build a 347. get good internals i.e.: probe pistons, eagle rods and crank, clevite bearings, or just get a kit from CHP. what would be the best?!?!?? and match that with say AFR 185's? a BBK intake and 30# injectors or whatever u guys think is neccesar, built AOD with 2200 stall and 3.73 gears.street/strip/daily driver when its nice out. did they COMPLETELY solve the oil burning problem with moving the wrist pin down? would this motor be pretty reliable?!!?!? would it be 100k mile capable?!??! thnaks a lot, any info please! thanks soo much!

RE: 347 myths and reality
supposedly all the problems have been fixed, but i know i still wouldnt build one due to the problems in the past, why not just build a nice 331 with an eagle stroker kit?

RE: 347 myths and reality
isnt the engine built stronger then a regular 302. Why wouldnt it last another 150-300,000 K? unless when you guys say "WILL LAST" you mean how long the engine block will last before something cracks it? A little confused, someone explain?

RE: 347 myths and reality
i think 331 would do a lot better......and if you want even a glimpse of 100k then go with a 331 but yeah.....i saw your little christmas presents you are lucky! I'm also 15 and no one in my family aproves of me and my need for speed haha....i would never get car parts for x-mas....but yeah....i also think very far ahead....i have a honda accord right now[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]and i'm hoping to sell it by april and have a 92ish 5.0 by summer.....work on it over summer get it down to hi 12's hopefully is what i'm shootin for before end of summer.......[IMG][/IMG]

RE: 347 myths and reality
A 306 would last the longest then the 331 then the 347. Just think about it. say a stock stroke is 3.00 inch (example) and a 347 is 3.40 inch stroke. The stroke is how far the piston has to go. For the same rpms for each stroke the pistons in the 347 has to move faster because it has more travel to go for each rpm. Thus making the rings and cylinders walls ware out faster. but with a 331 is almost in the middle. You also have to remember that going fast isnt cheap and either is maintenence on high hp motors. Hope this made some sence.

well if you drive hard like i do and are constantly on it i think stuff will just start breaking and so on......crack the block yes very possibly.....some people just like to drive hard.

oooo u meen drive hard on a go kart or ur bike or something like that rite? ok i understand.
any way bobby, any motor can last how ever long it wants to last. a 347 can out last a 302 by a long shot if ur grandma drives the 347 and a teeneager drives the 302. obviously it all depends on how u drive but lets face it, if u plan on building up a stroker like this ur goin to be gunning it alot, especially a yound kid like u cause thats how i was. yah the 347 did have the oil problems and supposedly they dont last as long and that mite be true but it all depends on how well u drive and mantain ur motor. if u want the power and the reliabillty, id say go with the 331. i have a 347 but thats only because i have a jetta that i can drive daily so my mustang isnt goin to be my main meens of transportation so im not goin to have to worry about putting alot of miles on the car.
