Default Are they different?

Is the speedo from a 5.0 different from the speedo on a 4 cyl car? Mine is broken and I have a 4 cyl parts car.

The obvious is the 4 cyl has a 85 mph speedo and 5.0 has a 140 mph guage. Other than that i could't tell you. I am not sure what your asking.

The 4 banger speedo will work fine you will only just read up to 85mph. The 87 I know and 88I belive it was the 5.0's came with 85mph speedometers.

87-89, and 90-93 are different, engine size only matters for the tach

I have an 88 5.0 and an 87 4cyl parts car. The speedo in both are 85mph units.

What is difference between the 87-89 and the 90-93. I have owned a 93 notch,91 lx hatch, and my current ride is a 89 lx hatch. They all have 140 speedo's, unless you are talking about some other diff. School me.

the later 89 model stangs came with the 140 mph speedo. This is the main reason the 87-89 models need the 89 style 140 mph speedos, they changed the speedos in 1990

The pre-90 speedo's have a "square" bottom and the 90 up speedos & tachs have a "notched" corner (thecorner over the column) it was a change they made due to the addition of the airbag system.
