RE: Porting question
I sure hope your friend knows what he's doing. A friend of mine tried to port his own head last winter... after almost 100 man hours he took it to a shop and they told him it was garbage. That crap ain't easy!

RE: Porting question
I wouldn't worry much about the finish on the port wall, very little air really is flowing there anyways...........
It's sort of like the duct-work in a building, the size is what matters not what is on the inside wall of the duct..........

another thing to keep in mind you wanna port mostly one side of the running and not just a straight though port that ruins everything and they need to be thrown out cause now your head flows worse than it did before

RE: Porting question
dang, i didnt know that porting was like a freakin science, i just thought that u port it until the hole is the same size as the gasket and port match then call it a day. is it really that difficult?

RE: Porting question
yes its really that difficult. porting matching is a little different you make the mouth the same sizes so the air flow isnt obstructed. but yes its a science. you gotta know how air flows in the runners to know how to make it flow faster and flow right

RE: Porting question
so self porting might not be the best idea? I was actually about to do it like tomorrow haha but if someone on here tells me that i'm actually gonna lose horses...screw it. Its just that this shop wanted like 1000 clams to do the heads, upper, and lower intake and i was just standin there with my mouth wide open so i decided that i would do it myself. I may just slap them back on there if this isnt gonna help me. What do you think of port matching, good or bad idea myself?

RE: Porting question
its good but you gotta really port the rest of what ever it is to make it work right. and yes porting does cost a lot. im in basic engine right now for class and my teacher was a machinest and you have no idea how much work really goes into that. they make it so perfect and flow just right it really costs that much. but if you have stock heads theres no point in doing them just pick up a set of gt40's and they will flow better than stock ones ported
