Need MAF Help badly
Ok so here is the story. My brother has a 93gt and he let it sit for about 2 or 3 years. So last week we put a new starter on, new plugs, msd wires cap and rotor and a cold air intake, aluminum tube inside fender kit. Now when he tries to rev it or drive it, as soon as it hits 2000 rpms it bogs down and acts like it doesn't have any power. It actualy bogs down so bad that it feels like you barely have the gas pedal down, it alsmost doesn't want to go over 2000 it goes so slowly up the rpms. I tried adjusting the timing and it just sounds like it backfires in the intake, it is wierd. I unplugged the MAF and magically the car runs like nothing is wrong. No other mods are done to the car except for weld in flowmasters. Is it a bad MAF or is there just too much air coming in through the intake or am i just crazy?
THANKS!!!!

So just clean the MAF connecting wires, you mean the actual connection right? You should see the amount of rat **** on the intake manifold it is almost too funny. Do you think that theMAF could have gone bad from sitting?

No, I don't mean clean the conenction (although that is a good idea) I mean physically remove the actual sensor itself. You're most likely going to need a security torx bit to get it out size 20 if I recall correctly.) Or you can take off the whole MAF and leave the sensor attached.
The sensor itself will ahve to VERY fine / tiny wires hanging down. Those are the ones you want to clean. To clean them, just get a can of MAF sensor cleaner from a parts store and spray th **** out of them. i suspect that after all this time, there must be some orety nasty stuff on the wires.
Although I don't often recommend it, if it's bad enough you can spray some on a q-tip and LIGHTLY clean the wires.
While you're at it, check and make sure the "spout conenctor" is still in place. Chances are it is, but it's worth checking anyway. That should be very close by, along the fender.

RE: Need MAF Help badly
To remove just the sensor itself, remove these screws:
It will pull out the two MAS wires that are normally in this tube when installed:
Once it's out all the way, it will look like this. This is what you want to clean:

RE: Need MAF Help badly
look and see if the vacuum line from the CAI to the oil feed kneck is connected. Just like 2 weeks ago I had the same thing happen to me we hit a record high 113 degrees out here in MO and one of the clamps broke off and that vacuum line was unhooked. It fixed my problem for a little while but unfortunately the problem came back and it was my MAF sensor and I had to replace it. I work at Oreilleys auto parts though cuz im only 18 so it was like 30 bucks to fix. Hope I could help!

i just saw your post after i replied. Thanks for the tips. Like I said i just tried to adjust the timing. also the timing is a little funky i tried to adjust it, it says that it is at like twenty for some reason. when i tried to take it down to 14 it doesn't want to run. What do you think could be causing that? or am i reading it wrong? I took out the spout connector and put the clip on the first plug wire which is coming from the plug that is all the way towarsds the front of the car on the passenger side. could the balance be off for some odd reason or am i doing ti wrong?
