17x9's on an 85
hey guys, i have an 85 gt that has an svo 5 lug conversion. i have 04 cobra 17x9 wheels with 245/45/17's for the fronts and 275/40/17 for the rear. i know that the rear will fit cause i took the quad shock out and put in the upr extreme duty control arm set. however i just got word that the wheels wont fit in the front??? does anyone know if i will have a problem?i guess the concern is that the 85's have smaller fender wells and the tires will hit or something? i hope this is not true cause i just got the car painted and its coming home soon to be completed. someone please give me some convincing news.....

i have those same wheels. u will be fine in the rear but the front u could have problems. mine is an 88 and i put 91-93 fenders on it to give it wider wheel wells. but since urs is an 85 u will probably have rubbing issues. mine also rub at full lock on the control arms. u could try putting a tubular k member w/ tubular a arms. it could make some space. what year is urs primetime?

I have those wheels on my car and they only rub on a full lock, did you just swap rotors up front or 94+ spindle swap?

Yes they will rub I have 17x8 sn95 wheels on my 87 with 245/45-17's on SVO/Lincoln hubs, mine use to rub but I fixed it with out using 91 - 93 fenders. Your center caps will also not fit if you do have the SVO/Lincoln front hubs or the Ranger front hubs, once more I had to modify mine even using a 5/16" spacer. You can waste your money on 91 - 93 front fenders but once you put your fender extentions back on you will lose any room you think you just gained.

I have an '86 with the factory spindles and four lugs. 17x9 Cobra R replicas and the inside lip of the wheel hit the front strut before they were against the hub. I had to buy 1/4" spacers and that gave me about an 1/8" clearance between the inner wheel lip and the strut. Then I had to get longet lug studs because I couldn't get my lug nuts on. The rears fit fine without the quads on, but the car looked funny because the front wheels stuck out farther then the rears. So I got spacers for the rears and longer lug studs and then had room to put my quads back on and the car has a mean stance with no wheel well rubbing issues.
