Default Please Help! Overheating

Hey everyone, I am new here. I also just bought my first 5.0. I just recently installed a black magic extreme. When I took it out today to run it after the install I saw that it was running a lot hotter than it was with the stock clutch fan. Befroe I was running in the middle maybe a little higher but now after about 15 minutes it goes up to the "n". I stopped the car and looked to see if the fan was running and it was. I also checked to make sure the fan was turning the correct direction and it was. I am new with all this stuff but shouldnt an electric fan that is rated at such a high cfm cool better than stock. Granted I still have a stock radiator but I was under the assumption that this fan would free up some extra ponies and help me run a little cooler. It seems that when the car comes to a stop and is at idle the temp starts to drop. Is there a chance the probe in the radiator fins is getting cool and shutting my fan off prematurely going down the road. I did not install the manual switch because I thought after I adjusted my thermostat on the fan it should come on when it was supposed to. Someone please help! I live in hot temps and this si bad for the car right now. If worse comes to worse I will just reinstall my stock clutch fan but I hate to see my money go to waste. Thanks

I had one of those fans and ended up taking itoff and putting a flex fan on. Sure they free up some horse power but if you livein a hot climate and you use your AC you need as much air as you can get thru your radator, and thats why the factory didn't use them on the 5.o's

black magic fans suck... make sure you installed it correctly and that the blade is in fact spinning in the correct direction...

when you realize that its a POS... go buy a fan from a 1992 Taurus 3.8L

They claim that this fan flows a lot more than the taurus fan. Do you have the **** turned so that it kicks on all the time? I'm really curious also and I might try putting my stock fan back on tomorrow just for ****s and giggles and see how it cools. If the stocker does better, I'll find someone with a lower horsepower motor than mine to buy it, it did a good job when I was n/a but now with the blower it doesn't do soo great.

I checked to make sure the **** was all the way to the left and it was. I think what might be happening is that I am going down the road and the air hitting the probe might be shutting the fan off. I would think that the **** being all the way over would prevent this but just to be sure I am going to install the manual switch today just to check.

I ran a manual switch today and drove the car and it was still runninghot so I put my stock clutch fan back on . It ran right perfect. I will be sending the black magic back. I might have had a bad fan but for right now I will stick with what works. Thanks for everyones inputs.

This is the only reason I'd install an electric fan. Max cooling comes from an engine driven fan. Look under the hood of most trucks.

That is a good thing. An electric fan running while you are driving over 50 mph is just a waste of alternator energy. What is coming through the grille will outflow any fan.

As for your overheating problem. If you had any issues before, an electric fan will not cure a plugged radiator or some other problems.
