Installing Camshaft

Installing Camshaft
I am installing my new roller camshaft. There is a small amount of play between the thrust plate and the cam...is this normal ? I was under the impression that the thrust plate pressed snugly against the cam ?
Total play is about 2 mm, front and back.
Thanks in advance for tips.

RE: Installing Camshaft
A little play is normal I wouldn't worry about it....there is a spec for end play but can't remember off the top of my head....once you put on the cam gear and timing chain ...I think you'll notice most of the play will be gone..

RE: Installing Camshaft
Factory camshaft end thrust should be .005-.0055 I believe. Check it with a dial indicator or feeler gauges, that's how much space there should be. If it's wrong you may end up with distributor gear wear problems. And check it with the cam gear torqued down

RE: Installing Camshaft
The amount of end play thats acceptable is increadibly small, i had that problem with the first timing chain i tried to install. After the new one it was tight as a drum. I wouldn't be surprised if 2mm was too much play.
