the richness is coming from the open air on the 02s then. which causes them to read lean due to oxygen rich atmosphere and the computer sends more gas to the motor when it really doesnt need it.

no it doesnt matter, because the cats are behind the bungs unless you have 2 sets of them. $500 is alot for 02s.

Yeah, the O2s should be around 35 buck a piece and it is an easy install.

joel you can program a chip to send dummy 02 readings to the computer thus keeping good idle characteristics. once in open loop the info from the 02s are useless thus no need for 02sto be hooked up if piggy back chip is burned to send the desired signal. another thing is that koeo or koer tests are useless if a chip is in place. the factory setup must be in place for this to work.
Don't agree.....and let me explain why....

1. If you send dummy O2 readings regardless of the conditions the EEC sees (ECT, ACT, BP, MAF... for example)....you would be fooling the ECM into "thinking" the calibration used is OK (even though it might be rich or lean) causing it not to correct.....or forcing it to use the wrong FPW's for the injectors.
2. Haven't heard of using a chip as an input device for specific signals, to bypass, delete, modify their working range, or ignore them....yes, but not as an O2 signal provider....as a way to tell the ECM to use open loop only (CLFLG = 0) and turn the adaptive (learning) strategy off.....yes.
3. KOEO/KOER are useful even with a chip installed, it's the tool used to ID/confirm the inputs from the different sensors are within the programmed working range (ECT, ACT, MAF, BP, etc), and that the modified logic provided by the chip is not following a GIGO(=Garbage In Garbage Out) operating condition.
4. Once open loop is forced as the only A/F strategy to use, the adaptive strategy also needs to be turned off.....any "learning" from the adaptive will also affect the open loop A/F tables.

Just a thought.
