Default Stock/Crate HP Questions..

Hey guys, this is my first time posting, sorry if this question has been addressed before, but I haven't found anything similar by searching..
I've been looking at crate motors, and I can't help but to question their power. A lot of the ones in my budget I've been looking at state their HP ratings between 250-340.
But that's not at the rear wheels. I honestly don't know what gross hp/tq numbers were for a 92 5.0HO.. Yeah, 225 at the rear wheels when it was new, but what was the gross HP of just the motor? I'd hate to spend 4K on a 330hp motor just to find out after the install that I'm still only getting 225 to the wheels. Does anyone know the gross HP rating of the stock motor? So far it's between the FMS gt40 block, a 250HP/350TQ 351, or a 347 Blueprint stroker.

Thanks for any info you can give me, it's appreciated.

flywheel hp stock was 225
they made about 190rwhp from the factory

a "350hp" crate motor will make about 260-290rwhp give or take

If you want real power dont buy a crate motor.
Find a local "race engine" shop and have them build you what you want from the ground up.

you can build up a nice 450-500hp 347 stroker for about $4-5k and make in the high 300's rwhp

You could just take about 20% off the 'horsepwer rating' if you are using an automatic trans and maybe 18% for a stick and that about what the real rearwheel HP will be.
IMHO, I don't really think that crate motors are the way to go either.
I'd find some place local and tell them what you want........

Iwould go 351, the reason is blocks are easy to find and cheap. You already have more cubes than a 347 but still stronger and more clearance. Stroke the 351. All you need is mounts, oil pan, headers, distributer, and some external accessory brackets. Try to get a roller block

And an intake manifold.
If you add up all the costs, it gets expensive if you use decent stuff.
You also add about 70-90#'s to the front of the car which is what you don't want to do.........
