Trans speedometer gear
ok i have a 1988 gt it has it problems what mustang dosent.but my problem is the speedometer and the odometer dont work. i know the problem is where the sensor goes into the trans and the gear itself in the trans has moved. i know i prob have to take the trans out np(just bolts that need to be removed) but i was wondering what happens once you get the trans out and need to open it up? i really dont want to send the trans out because im a cheap ________ (insert favorite curse word here) and dont like to spend money. i have seen post of people doing it before and i would just like to know how its done, becasue the last thing i want is to take the trans apart and watch a part fly out. then i have a problem! so if anyone out there that has fixed this before please step by step would help out alot.

RE: Trans speedometer gear
AOD's are machined into the output shaft, so they wouldn't be able to move...
T-5's are spring clipped in there pretty tight, so it shoudn't move...
On a T-5, you would have to drop the tranny and follow procedures on removing the tailshaft...
