Default temperature coolant sensor...

Just got my 85 Mustang and still trying to figure things out. The temperature gauge as of now isnt working. I've checked the wire andmade sure its working and grounded it to make sure the gauge is working. This leaves the sensoir itself going into the manifold thelikely culprit, but i can't track one down. The parts store cant seem to find the right one when i go there. It has an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold. How can i track this sensor down, because i need one badly?

Ya i was thinking about doing that anyway, but wouldnt i still need that sensor? Im new to this, how would the aftermarket gauge work and be hooked up. I wanted to go aftermarket on the temperature and on the rpm? How would i do either of these?

with a mechanical temp gauge there is no sending unit. its a physical measurement of temp. much like a thermometer. when you buy one it comes with a hard line that you run to the lower intake manifold from gauge inside the car. they eliminates you stock one. go check one out at autozone at the sun pro gauges. you can get one of those or your can get a autometer or whatever. but if you want to see what it looks like or what its about go look at the sun pro ones at autozone.

The problem could be that you're asking for a coolant sensor.....it should be the temperature switch. The big chain auto parts stores have it.
TSU217 under GP Sorensen brand.
F1855 under AC/Delco
TS25621 under Niehoff
TS58 under Standard Motor Products
