Is it worth buying a re manufactured 302 long block. Then work on that. Or should I just look for a worked long block. I don't have a lot of money on hand and I need a new motor soon. This one is going. It burns oil and one or both head gaskets are leaking and theres a lot of miles already on it. So does anyone know what I should do should I get a factor/stock long block then work on that or get a performance long block. Im trying to save as much money as I can. Also does anyone recommend any one company that has long blocks.

I'm still learning the technical stuff but to me, it would depend on what exactly you see youself doing in the future with the car. If you want to save money and just get it running good, I'd just get a rebuild motor. If you see yourself wanting to do upgrades in the future, you may want to spend a little more money on a good longblock which will leave you some upgradability down the road. Alot of other guys here have some good advice, so I'm sure you get a bunch more good info.

My plan for this car is to have it run so its a daily driver and good street car. The plan is have a HCI setup and a super charger thats it and then have little stuff. But no big displacement or anything thats for my other car. So thats why Im asking on what should I do get a re manufactured motor then work on that one or get mine done up bored 30 over such and such. Because if I just get a re manufactured motor I can save my money and then worry about upgrading because the car would run like new. It would run better then it is. And then I can put heads and cam in it. Or even just buy a low miles 302 motor. Anyway on that subject. Is it true that in 1993 the motors werent as strong. Like the pistons were cast instead of forged. Because I know someone that has a 93 motor with like high 50's k miles on it.

I forget what year but sometime in the late '80s they switched from forged to cast internals.

92 was the last year for forged pistons. In 93 they changed to hyper pistons.

The last couple months of production for the 92 was hyper, but a majority of the 92's were forged.
This is something i have heard a few times but not sure how accurate it is :Black oil pan is hyper, Gray oil pan is forged. I have never owned anything newer than a 91 so i dont have first hand experience with this color of oil pan theory.

How does this idea sound as a motor. If I got my block redone bored 30 over and got the stock heads ported and new valves and springs and everything and a good cam. How much power would I and could I make. I want to use as much as I can that is stock because I dont have alot of money right now. So new heads are out of the picture. Then later on I can put on better heads. Also new intake upper and lower. The only thing stock would be heads pretty much.
