Default 2G Powermaster alternator installation

Ok, PLEASE don't link me to that PA Performance alternator install guide, I'm not buying a PA Performance 3G alternator, it's quite different. I'm just wondering about the wiring, I'm not completely sure if the regulator is being initialized to "excite" the battery or not. I don't want it as a one-wire setup where I have to rev the engine to get the alternator working.

The stock regulator harness is a three pin harness and the one on the alternator is 2 pin. I also don't know if I need to connect the white "stator" wire anywhere. Does anyone have any information specifically on installing this alternator? Remember, this is a 2G 100amp unit, with the external fan, NOT a 3G unit.

Thanks.

Anyone? All I need is a wiring diagram that shows where the stock wires would hook up on the new Powermaster unit. Right now I have the charge wires connected, and I have the plug for the idiot light plugged in, but I think it's running under internal regulator, which means I need to rev the engine the "excite" the alternator. They said there is a way to hook it up to use the car's external regulator, but how?

Well, I don't know about 1G, 2G is 2nd generation, which is what our Mustang's stock one is. The 3G is the one that's popular as an upgrade, but you'll need a dremel tool or something to eat away part of the mount in order for it to fit. I don't happen to have one so I opted for a higher output 2G unit. Visually, the main difference between the 2G and 3G is the 3G has internal cooling while the 2G has the fan on the outside.

The 3G is supposed to perform better on the low end, meaning it has a flatter power output curve than the 2G where you really need to be in the higher revs to get good output from them.

There are probably other advantages to the 3G, but they are more expensive and not as easy of an install.

Dude, you are one fast reader, everytime I post something and look at the main page, you've responded to like 2-3 other posts...

Anyway, don't spam this TOO much or the mods might lock it thinking we are just spamming for no reason.

if worse comes to worse you could always break down and get a chiltons. I'm trying to go from 2g to 3g but I don't know how to rig the harness.
