from my '88 shop manual the specs are: cylinder heads - torque in two steps, 1st step 55-65 ft-lbs, 2nd step 65-72 ft-lbs.
intake manifold to cylinder head bolts - 23-25 ft-lbs. with a note to re-torque with the engine hot
upper intake manifold to lower- 12-18 ft-lbs.

NO, don't even try doing this!!! remove the rockers completely and install the heads and torque them down to specs using new head bolts as the factory bolts are "torque to yield" bolts which are only good for one use. then install the pushrods and the rockers and torque the rockers to spec and then install the lower intake.

You might be right as I've looked back in the shop manual and it doesn't say anything about not re-using the head bolts for the '88 model year 5.0 but I know I've read that stuff about torque to yield bolts for so long I thought it applied to all 5.0's, not just the newer ones.

What do you set the rocker arms at when you put them back on?

Tourqe to yeild bolts were used on fords aluminum head engines. The cast iron head engines used re-usable headbolts.
