new rockers or new cam

Probably been beat to death, but I couldn't find a specificanswer using the search function. I bought an 89 LX for $500. It's bone stock, 150,000mi. So far, I've purchasedan Explorer upper and lower intake, gt40p heads, 2-1/2" off road pipe, 2-1/2 exhaust (flowmaster 40s), shorty headers and 4.10 gears. I haven't installed anything yet, but my question is, which would be better for this combo?, a new cam, or install 1.7 rockers on the gt40p heads?. Also have plans for sub frame connectors, and control arms, along with 4cyl front springs & 90/10 drag shocks. Any thoughts as to what I could expect at the strip with this combo (I'm working on a set of draglites, 15X8 rear with MT drag tires, and 15X3-1/2 fronts)?

neither really as with 150k I'm sure those valve spring have seen better days but if you plan on doing something anyway just put on some rockers which will put you at about .468-.472 lift...off top of my head

The valve springs have already been addressed, I'm installing gt40p heads, with Comp Cam springs

He said the car had 150k not the gt40 heads.

Anyway, a cam would benefit you more, especially with the higher flowing heads. Rockers don't do a whole lot unless you just need a little more lift.

do both while you have everything apart. stop being cheap you have went this far. this project is one you have to live for awhile. if need be wait another couple of months before starting.

he doesn't say anything about mileage on the heads smartass...and adding rockers also adds a slight amount ofduration:D

The heads are rebuilt units, with Comp Cams valve springs installed. I've heard that the stock cam is pretty good, just looking for opinions as to what the best investment is, Cam or 1.7 rockers on the stock cam?. I'm leaning towards a new cam, unless someone convinces me to use the stock cam with 1.7 rockers.
Thanks, for the replies

well if you can only do one, do the cam while you have everything appart. The rockers can be done at a lter date relativly easily, a cam takes a bit of work

But I would do both if I was you

Depending on the amount of driving you are going to do you might just want to do a cam and get a 1.6 roller rocker set... 1.7s are hard on the valvetrain... Ford put 1.6s there for a reason...
