get a long extension cord and mom's hair dryer or sis's and hit the alternator and remove the cap and wirning harness for the dizzy and hit it to.

Replace the rubber boot for your dizzy if its missing and leave your hood open to dry.Pack die electric grease on the dizzy/ alternator harness and ignition coil harness and plug em all in.

that helps, also check your salt and pepper connectors and pack them with grease.

I have the boot on my dizzy and packed all harnesses, rain has never done this to me, and I have more openings than you do.

You problem sounds exactly like what happens to late model GMs when they have a cracked coil pack... Is your coil still over there without a splash guard?

I'd wait until tonight and go out there with a spray bottle and put a mist over it. You might be able to see some cross-arcing to the chassy. You can also measure the resistance of the coil to see if its out of spec. A visual inspection for signs of leaking might be good too.

With that said, I had a GM that passed both tests but still had a very small crack in the coil... It took 6 months before it got bad enough for me to see it. I hate to recommend that you just change parts, but... coils are cheap.
