Default Can a speed density computer have a check engine light/

My computer is a DA1 that is going into a 67. From my schematics on MA computers, pin 17 controlled the check engine light. Can I use that with a speed density computer, or will it just fry the computer? Thanks

If you plan on upgrading to MAF, and want a functional CEL after the upgrade to MAF......sure. But the CEL will not be operational for the DA1 strategy b/c it doesn't have the logic or the CEL driver.

Pin 17 is the STO/MIL (seft test output/check engine light) on 86/87 computers

Ok, conflicting answers.. I know 17 is the sto/mil on 89+ engines, but I can't find it in an 86 diagram, and people who own 86's say, there are no check englien lights.

joel: But if i wire it up with this cmputer, it will be illuminated all the time? My car isn't running, but as I said I turned the key on, and the thing grounded itself, SO, the bulb would illuminate. Would it turn off when the car got running, or just stay grounded (Illuminated)? Will it hurt the computer? If it's not ready for a CEL, I don't want to fry the thing.

...you won't fry it, the only way to check if it would turn off after you start the engine is.........testing it......but it should.

Keep in mind that one of the ways you set a KOER to run, is by attaching a test light between battery (+) and STO (which is basically what you would do if you set a CEL on the instrument panel).....since the ECM doesn't fry when you run a KOER.......it shouldn't fry if you leave a CEL indicator light hooked up to the STO wire....will it turn on if a hard failure code is logged?......I really don't think so.

Oh!....and here is the EEC diagram for the '86...

Thanks man, well i"ll be updating to mass air eventually so I might as well wire it now i suppose.

I think I found out I have an 86 harness which is what has been causing all these setbacks.. agh.. but the DA1 computer isn't from 86, is it?

It's clearly marked on my '86 diagram
17 = sto/mil

Lol on the no CELs for '86s
Yeah, they don't light up per say
Some cars came w/o bulbs...lol
But the stuff is there...I think it just wasn't a law yet or something
