Intake, headers etc. Light car with a 302. If it has a 7.5 rear you could pick up some gears too. 4spd? Or is it the SROD?

They didnt make Mach 1's in 76 so you better make sure that you didnt get hosed by a salesman so check your year! If its a mustang II, Head Cam and 4bbl intake and possibly look into a better bottom end/pistons

The Mach 1 continued into 78 with the Mustang II before it dropped. Not very popular though. I didn't think it was in production that long myself.

A four barrell intake & carb, headers and a decent exhaust system will make a huge improvement over what you have now. You should be able to do all that for under a grand.
