how expensive is it to do a 5lug conversion?
I need new tires (mine are balding), and i was just going to go the whole way and buy some new rims as well (aftermarket ones). After about an hour of looking at tires online, i realized... It seems like 99% of rims out there are 5lug.... So i figure, unless i want to stay stock, i better convert.
How much is it to convert to 5lug on a 89 GT?

Most people would say to hit up the junkyard and get the appropriate parts. This link to the tech article might be helpful...

The other way to go is buy a kit from like 50resto, but I think that that is quite an expensive route to go.

Ok, i read through that article, But it has a lot of technical info, and is for multiple things, So im kind of confused.
For a conversion, is the rotors all that needs changed? Or the entire axle? Sorry, maybe im slow...or its just to late, but that was a lot of reading, and im confused.haha.

ok, i finally decided to check ebay, and i found some rims by ADR (which is a brand i was looking into, before i thought about the Lug pattern) on there..... Theres quite a few 4lug ADR rims, but in the list of vehicles they fit, MUSTANGs are not included.... Did they just leave them out? Or is their something else that makes these rims not fit? Maybe the width?

Sorry for the stupid questions... Never had anything but stock rims before.

Maybe this link would be more helpful. You should do a search for 5 Lug Conversion as there are probably a few thousand posts around this topic.

I spent about $900 on junkyard parts, ebay parts and stuff I bought off forums and then some stuff from the parts store.
That includes wheels but not tires (used the same ones).

*edit*
Most aftermarket wheels have a hard time fitting over the dust cover at the end of the wheel brearings.. its due to the style bearing system the fox uses

RE: how expensive is it to do a 5lug conversion?
Its all a prefrence. Im in the process of deciding what to do too. My whole build grew as a result. I started with just a disk conversion then a five lug. But while im doing the five lug why not beef up the rear end while im at it since the rear axles have to be changed over anyway. So now i am doing 33 spline axles from strange with a posi diff. and baer brakes all around 5 lug/disk with sn95 spindle conversin at the same time. I just dont want to have to touch the rear again for a while.
My direction is the expensive route to go my setup will run around 3g's including 03 cobra's with nitto z rated tires.
Its just how far do you want to go.
There is nothing wrong with 4 lugbesides the wheel selection.
