Default MSD TIMING RETARD BOX! help

i was installing this http://www.msdignition.com/tc_2.htm. i have had a bunch of trouble with it. does anyone have any knowledge of this?

when i set my timing to 13* with the msd retard system all installed, i plug in the grey chip into the distributer and the timing advances like it usually does. however, with the chip in the idle bounces erratically (never used to) and some times, without touching the controll ****, the timing advances dramaticall (up to 30*!) when using the timing light to check.

from what i have seen, i just cant trust this product. does anyone know anything about this msd 8680????

Your computer controls the timing. It's going to move all over the place with the spout connector attached. You can run a timing check to make sure the car computer is working. I haveseen some post on here that there is a way to do that with a paper clip but I only know how to do it withmy code reader.

i just seem like with this msd controll checking your timing with a paper clip should not be what i have to do. im not down playing your advice, i appreciate it. i just would assume that this would be a plug and play mod and not a guss and check.

keep the info coming, im stumped. im about to pull it off and get a refund.

My tuner says 1 out of 3 MSD timing/ignition boxes they sell and install
have problems or are just flat junk right out of the box. ......................

I will never by another MSD product after my last $300 MSD distributor turned
into a piece of crap after 2,000 miles.

i disconected the retarted msd timing retard, set 10* base timing and then turned off the car and put the grey chip back into the wiring of the distrib. i started it back up and noticed that the timing notches on the balancer were jumping around quite abit. i have never noticed it do that before. is that the computer advancing the timing as the rpms climb??

Yes. If I remember right the computer will advance the timing up to 10 degrees above base.

with the grey chip IN, the timing will advance to about 20 or22 degrees btdc. with the chip out it will be dead even at 10*. when i rev the car with the chip IN, the cars timing will advance to about 30btdc max, then start to go toward 20* and rest there. does that sound about right??
