I'd rather have an automatic with fewer gears if it's 800hp or more. There's a reason the REALLY fast cars either run things like Powerglides, or specialty trans. Or in some cases direct drive with clutch slip control(ala Top Fuel). There gets to be a point where the car is just TOO fast for you to shift it manually. I prefer driving stick though, much more visceral

well, I dont have 800hp yet, but I have a built 347 with mabye 380rwhp and a 150 shot (300 if I can ever get traction) so I might be around 500-650rwhp really dont want to waste my spec stage3 clutch,and aluminum flywheel, and dont really have the cash for another sfi scattershield,so I am leaning towards an astro performance t-5 rated to 650hp/525tq

iceman bracket races so he needs consistancy.

just run a stock t5... and have a back up... thats what im doing.... and as soon as my camaro sells ill be atleast in the mid 12s.... im gonna run a stock t5... if it brakes, i have a back up...

ya, that is not going to work, I do have my stock one as backup from when I put in the t-5z that I just broke.
I run high 10's / low 11's and need to know if anyone here has the astro performance or g-force t-5 transmissions here.

the stock t-5 is only rated to 300 ft/lbs, it wont last long at double that

I have the Astro T5 gear set in mine and it has been working just fine. I ran my car Saturday at Virginia Motorsports Park and had 60's in the low 1.60 range. I bought the gears and put them in myself.
