AOD to manual

RE: AOD to manual
I would keep the AOD and have it rebuilt using high performance bands and clutches if I were you. then you can learn to drive easier and concentrate on your driving rather than worrying about manually shifting all the time. you can always swap over to a manual later on if you really want to, but I would go with the auto tranny right now.

first of all, thanks for all the replies! but i thought about it and im deciding to keep the AOD^^^
im gonna get it all built so it wiill handle the horsepower, and maybe slicks, if u get the best internals for an AOD they can handle a LOT of hp right? i was tinking about a 22-2500 stall also, thanks!

RE: AOD to manual
I'm trying to secure a T-5 from a 1993 Cobra, it's stronger than the stock T-5. T-5's are good as long as you don't plan on powershifting, but my friend has been powershifting his T-5 without a problem, but still wouldn't recommend it. Automatics are better for drag racing because you'll get consistant results, I am trying to go manual because I think they are easier to maintain, and I can get this T-5 for less than rebuilding my AOD, so I better try for this first. If this doesn't work out for me, I might think about rebuilding my AOD, who knows, I'm just always on a budget...

RE: AOD to manual
Well im glad your sticking with the AOD...good choice IMO. By the way a built up AOD can handle as much power as you want...it all depends on who its built up. Theres guys in bracket racing with AOD's and they have over 1000hp... but what ever you do DO NOT make the mistake i HAD to go through with..the cost of rebuilding a AOD just to get it to stock specs is verry expencive. Do what i suggested and order one from the tranny guys you see everywhere in mustang magizens.. they will ensure how much power your tranny can handle...how ever much you want it to handle.. thell even do all the work so that you dont have to go around trying to find go fast goodies that MIGHT not even do anything for your tranny..do you want some suggestions on who to order from??
