I was being serious. Even the manufacturer of the pistons can have an effect on best timing, as it changes heat transfer out of the combustion process, as well as where you live. That's why there is no "best timing" for any particular type of engine such as a 302 or a 347 etc, it all has to be done on an individual basis. You really just need to play with it. I prefer to do it based on drivability(if it's a street car) and track performance. Mess with the initial advance and the curve until you get the best performance and drivability without problems.
