Default Engine Balance

What should be balanced in the shortblock? I'm assuming pistons, rods, crank, harmonic balencer and the flex plate. Also I was wondering if the rods pistons and crank are new can I reuse my old flexplate and harmonic balancer or do I have to get new ones? The reason I am asking is I'm looking at the summit racing 306 kit and its not balanced but the pistons and rods are weight matched and I wanted to know what I should do before installing this in my block.

take the parts with your flexplate and balancer and have the machine shop balance it all

and if your old balancer looks like its seen better days you should replace it. really, if you have the funds its a good idea to go ahead and buy a new one with your new motor anyways - but as long as the teeth are good on your flywheel you can use that no problem

My goal is just to have a running car again. The problem right now is my piston rings are gone. Also when I bought the car my rear crankshaft seal and front crankshaft seal started to leak. When I went to change the front seal there was a crack in the harmonic balencer so I don't know what kind of damage that did to the crank shaft. I'm looking into other options but the summit kit was what I was leaning toward.

I sent you a few links, one of a balanced kit, with similiar price of the 306 kit.

Im sure youd like an additional 60-100 hp for the same price
