Theres better heads out there than AFR 165's. Theyre hardly any better than GT-40's. I'd recommend that you do some more searching and find a better head.

PS: Pete Jackson gear drive.

somehow that doesnt seem right based on flow numbers... it's been proven time and time again that the 165s are a great head for stock bottom end 5.0s.

Dont get a gear drive you will lose horsepower, and afr 165s are fine as long as you dont plan too supercharge with stock pistons.

You need to look at the flow charts again....They flowed on a 306 with a 2" inlet pipe. Those flow numbers are "doctored" to make them look good.

IMO, if youre going to spend that much ,oney on a set of heads, bare minimum, go with the 185's (if youre set on AFR). They have the large valves and lots of potential if you do want to upgrade further later on.

Afr 185's have 2.02 intake valves dont they? the only heads you can put on a stock 5.0 with 2.02 valves and not have clearance issues are the Trick Flow twisted wedge heads. you will have to fly cut the pistons with any other head. If you are going to fly cut the pistons then I say RHS 180cc heads FTW

why is this? I see this all the time and people don't seem to have problems.

I think a lot of people hate on AFRs because they are on the expensive side.

AFR's arent any more expensive than TFS or RHS. Im not hating on them, but I think they dupe people into thinking that theyre a better head, when theyre not.

Sorry to say but you are wrong sir. The TFS HI -PORT head will bolt on with no fly-cutting required up to .550 lift, except for the '86 HO motor because of the flat tops. The hi-port flows VERY nicely box-stock, and even better ported.

RHS does make a nice head.
