I have a 190k miles on my shortblock and have 4.10's. Bottom end is showing no signs of going. The bottom end will go from beating on the car, not what gears you have.
What if he is reffering to being at 3000 rpms at freeway speeds for extended intervals... as compared to about 1700??? IMO that may wear the bottom end out faster...
