thru the fender CAI
My situation is a little differant, my 5.0 is in a 1969 coupe, the CAI kit i bought has all the tubes to install the fliter inside the fender, it will work on my car (if i move some things) mune is not a show car, it is not a restored classic, so no issue there
just wondering if anybody saw any performance gains moving the air cleaner inside te fender

Stock 5.0 air induction is a "fender mount" style, so its really a huge debate for us to determine how helpful after market CAIs really are. I think in most cases they are used just to get a cleaner looking engine bay.
On your car I'm sure it would make at least some difference. Going through the fender gives you a cooler intake air charge than sucking hot air from under the hood.

if the stock mount is in the fender..... how do you change your filter? (from the engine comp. or thru the fender), if i put my filter in my fender i will have to make a cover (removeable) to keep water, mud, etc, off the filter (being thrown from the tire)

RE: thru the fender CAI
The stock system is an air box that bolts to the fender. The filter is held up against the fender by the box which attaches with studs. Then, inside the fender there's another air box (commonly called the "air silencer") that blocks all the road debris. Most people, including me, take the silencer off. The filter is up high enough in the fender, plus the filter is actually INSIDE the engine bay (it breathes through a ~8" x ~4" hole), that it doesn't really get road debris or water.
Again, the debate on CAI vs. factory with a good filter is everlasting. However, cold air is always better than hot air, however you decide to get there is your own business.
Good luck! Sounds like a cool project.

My personal beliefs are you get a cleaner air flow with a CAI. That is if you get the full aftermarket tubes. I have a BBK and It seems like it helped a little bit. Remember, more air, more power. The faster and cleaner you can get the air in the engine, the better.
