Default Winter project--build up

Nice site fellas. I've been on here for a few weeks reading around gathering some info and now i've decided to post now that i knowa little bit more about stangs.

Little background--Just picked up a 88 GT, 5.0-mild build done on it, auto-shift kit, 2400 stall that i'm not sure about. The body of the car is junk, it's nothing but rust. I've got a decent set of pony wheels, decent tires, off road H pipe, Mac shorties, rust free rear hatch and a few misc. pieces that i could keep.

Motor work--i've got a really good friend who came over today to look/drive the car and he's got some serious motor builds behind him. He's as eager start this as i am! We searched for some parts today and came up a with a starter list. I'll start from the bottom--my 5.0 is suppose to have a forged crank and pistons. We've got no idea, but since we are tearing the motor down anyways we'll find out. He recommends getting the block to machine shop to get it blueprinted, is it worth it? If i've got forged or not i'll get forged on the bottom end. Heads--what do i need? I've been reading alot about the GT40's from explorers. Those are more common on the used end, but do i want to buy used, if not what do i want? Cams--after looking around on Summit, he recommended this, or something similar to it, cam:http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku He saved me a link of some roller rockers, http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku Next would be my intake. Some posts i just read so to use a cobra intake or just what ever i wanted. Anyone have experience with the Victor Jr (i think that's what it's called)?

Just like anyone on here i've got a budget. I'm hoping to be in the $3-4000 range. I think for now we're going to build the motor. Probably run the car for the summer and then next year put a turbo on it. We've already got a Garrett turbo that is free, so that's a good start. That's about all i know. This will be my first motor build. I'm just now getting out of rock crawlin and into street rods. My plans aren't to have a drag car, but a nice weekend car to cruise around. Thanks for the help. If you have any helpful links please share!

I had a piece in there about the body work but i deleted it because the post is to long anyways. I'm going to end up getting another donor mustang for the body, mine it to far past the point of repair. So after i pull the motor and accessories, i'll scrap this body, get the motor tore apart, maybe send it to the machine shop, then focus on getting a donor and get it preped for the body shop. After it's at the body shop then i plan on building themotor back up.

I am in the process of doing exactly what you are, just alittle ahead of you. Igot a clean 93 notch manual everything and gutted a 88 gt for the drive train. Be careful redoing your motor, Ihave found there are great deals on blocks from dart or even the new BOSS block from ford about $1350 etc and then you know you are starting with a good foundation and they can be bored out to 396 if needed.( not recommended) Two friends within two months have cracked blocks and these engines were blueprinted and balanced they had them restored perfect. The risks are high with rebuilding stock blocks if you want to run high HP say 400+

That link has given me some numbers to shoot for with some good stats. It's kind of a start for me.

What do you all think about some of the parts i posted? Heads especially.
