Default Supercharger Questions

I am slowly putting together money for a supercharger but while I am saving I figured I would get as much info on them as I could a few questions I have are:</P>

1. My motor is stock and it has about 150,00 miles on it, it runs strong and there is no rpm fluxuation or anything like thatbut it does burn 1qt of oil every 3,000 miles so I was wondering is there any areas I should look into beefing up on the motor before I strap on the SC?</P>

2. what would be a safe psi range for a stock motor?</P>

3. what brands are recommended?</P>

</P>

any help would be greatly appreciated.</P>

Well for one thing a motor with 150,000 miles I dont think would last too long anyway with or without boost. But if you are going to get a supercharger the best one would either be a procharger or a vortech.ATI Prochargertested a 1993 mustang cobra 90,000 miles only equiped with full length headers, 2 1/2 inch H-pipe and dynomax mufflers with only 9-lbs of boost andran a best time of 12.20 @114. At the price of only $2,899 I would go for a procharger. This blower is only the p600B, When you build your motor I would also recomend either a 306/331 pro bullit or super pro bullit long block or short block from DSS Racing. The spb can handle about 650 -700 horspower with heavy boost. Either way you go you should also have an intercooler. That kit with an intercooler puts the price still at only 3696 which is great for now you would be making more power and less chance of blowing your motor. Hope this helps</P>

Intercooled Procharger P-1sc 14 psi - $3696</P>

306/308 Super Pro Bullit short block 650-700 hp - $3149</P>

Thanks, for the reply so in your opinion would you look into building a stronger motor before getting a supercharger. I don't want to fork out the cash for a SC and then have my motor blow.

Look into a kenne bell twin screw 6psi. It will not be too much for a stock motor, minimum of mods, and replaces the upper intake for ease of installation. It produces boost starting at 2000rpm at wot and continues at full boost up to the redline, unlike a centrifugal blower, which builds to full boost in the higher rpm ranges.

And boost does not kill an engine. RPM's kill an engine. It's all the mods necessary to run high boost that produce these higher rpms. I'm not sure if the 89 computer has the rev limiter, you might research it. If not, a good aftermarket ignition (crane hi-6, etc.) with a rev limiter would do it. Kenne Bell's web site has a wealth of info about it. I think it's kennebell.com, but if not, just do a search on google.

I just recalled why you would want an aftermarket ignition w/rev limiter. The computer leans out cylinders to limit the revs. A no-no with s/c or nitrous. The rev limiter on a crane, msd, etc. kills the spark to certain cylinders keeping the engine from redlining.<edited><editID>makarovboy</editID><editDate>37885.8605671296</editDate></edited>
