OMFGWTFBBQ about to start up my rebuilt engine...
ok so, everything is hooked up after a long 6 months, im about to turn the key. IS THERE ANYTHING I NEED TO KNOW BEFORE I DO THIS? its ok if i just start it and let it idle right?

ya. go to autozone and get an oil pump priming rod. fits into a cordless drill, and slides into the dizzy hole. spin it counter clockwise for a good minute. works best to have a valve cover off so you can see it reaching the top of the motor.

if its a new cam it needs to be broken in..... keep it at 2k for 20 min... dont let it idle much
my teacher builds motors often, and has been for a while, i have him for engine repair... and that is one thing he has drilled into our heads... its crutial to let the cam break in properly

Maybe flat tappets or mechanical cams, nothing of that sort for hydraulic stuff.
If you don't want to buy a priming rod, you can use a 1/4" socket and some extensions. If you do this though, you need to be VERY CAREFUL that they don't come apart. I duct taped mine together very securely, and had no problems. Remember, counter-clockwise.
