Lookin to do 5.0 conversion from 89 LX 4cyl
Hey everyone! My name is Zach and I currently live in Dublin, Ohio but originally from Queens N.Y. In the next few days I plan on buying my first car, a 1989 Mustang LX 4cyl 5spd, with plans to convert it to a 5.0. I was just looking for some guidance as to what needs to be done to make the car V8 ready as far as the tranny, shocks, etc. Also I need a few suggestions as to what low-cost power-adders I can start off with. Any help is much appretiated!

it was a little helpful, yet scary. that article makes it sound like a nightmare..... if that were the case the guy im buying the car off of probably would have told be about all that stuff because he said he'd help me. i dont think its that complicated, all the parts are standardized I hear... still looking for more info, prolly from a veteran of the conversion...

2) tranny??? no not at all. just need to get a used bell housing for a 5.0 from a tranny shop
3) rear end??? no? it would be nice. but again not nesessary unless he's pushing over 250 hp
4) harness?? yes youll be better off pulling one from a mustang that had a 5.0 from a junkyard. it will have eveything youll need for wiring for both behind and infrom of the fire wall
computer?? yes again from the same mustang you'll be geting the wiring harness from
5) cross member? yes, because youll need your dule cats, witch will require a dule cross member
will you ever have to pass a emmisions test?? your going to need the dule exaust out of a mustang if you ever want to pass a emmisions test to pass. becids the exaust from a stock 4 cyl will not fit the 5.0 this is a easy swap. ive done it many times and had them passing 50 state emmissions tests after words no problim. the key is finding all the right parts...if your searious about this swap, and your not just kicking around a question just because you were just wondering, let me know. and when the time comes ill help you with any other questions
