speedo doesnt work on my 87 5.0

the oil gauge works, the rpm guage works.. but the rest dont. is there a relay i need to change?
or is it the speedo cluster itself? i plan on putting a 140mph in it soon.

It's cable driven. See that it is not binding. Check the connection from the tranny and to the back of the speedo. Could just be a broken gear in the speedo itself.

probably the gear at the end of the speedo cable, inside the tranny.

On 94/95's the plastic gear in the speedometer itself tends to break, I don't know if it's known to happen on the older ones.

Mine works when it wants to but always calculates the mileage. It never reads when I first drive away and it never starts working at the same time anywhere from a few minutes to an hour.
