83 Stang 5.0 HO Mods?
Hello ALL, I just got the car (Pure stock) and I'm looking for things to do w/it.
I want to keep it street legal, just trying to get some extra hp.
I know I need to get a true"dual exhaust" setup but I'm not sure what I should get(H or X pipes, etc.). I was told in order to do this I need headers from at least an 86 GT model?
What should I get for the following
Carbuertor?
Intake Manifold?
Tranny? (Current is 4speed)
Anything else?
Thanx!

I think you need to change the crossmember to put a dual exhaust on. Mine had a dual exhaust when I got it. What state are you in? Different states have different laws about what is street legal. I have an '83 because in MA you don't have to pass emissions on '83 and older vehicles.

blow it and stroke it, no j/k, i would make it a 5 spd, i would just get some after market shorties, you will need a double hump trans crossmember, get an x pipe bbk or bassani,i would upgrade to fuel injection if you want to but you dont have to, if you stay with carb get a holley intake manifold, and carb something like a 500cfm on stock should be good i dont know what stock is someone else might know. and c what you get from there, have fun. sry for this being so long

In MA cats are technically required in '79 or later cars, but they usually don't look.
I'm trying to make my car close to street legal. Enough to get buy atleast. How much money are you looking on putting into your car?
Exhaust is probably the first step. Then you might want to look into the intake manifold. I think you are fine with your current carb. If you don't have the cash for the intake, you can gain a few HP with a carb spacer.

If you can get a cheap used T5 tranny, you should.(junk yard possibly)
It would be a good time to change the tranny while you do the exhaust, because you have to change the crossmember anyway
