Default cam and head questions

O.K. I have my tax return, 2K.

I want to upgrade my heads, install a cam and replace my flowtech headers with ceramic BBK's. I have the cam picked out, E303 and I'm going with ARP studs. The heads I'm looking at are the World products cast iron set. I also plan to replace the timing chain set and water pump.

Specs:

Combustion Chamber Volume (cc): 64
CNC Machined Combustion Chamber: No
Intake Runner Volume (cc): 200
CNC Machined Intake Runner: No
CNC Machined Exhaust Runner: No
Intake Port Location: Standard
Exhaust Port Shape: Square

Exhaust Port Location: Standard
Intake Valves Included: Yes
Intake Valve Diameter (in): 2.020
Exhaust Valves Included: Yes
Exhaust Valve Diameter (in): 1.600
Valve Springs Included: Yes
Outside Diameter of Outer Spring (in): 1.437
Damper Spring Included: No
Number of Springs Per Valve: Dual
Retainers Included: Yes
Retainer Material: Chromemoly steel
Locks Included: Yes
Lock Style: 7 degree
Valve Stem Seals Included: Yes
Valve Stem Seal Style: Ring and Band
Rocker Arm Studs Included: Yes
Rocker Arm Nut Thread Size: 3/8-24 in.
Rocker Arms Included: No
Rocker Arm Nuts Included: No
Guideplates Included: Yes
Guideplate Pushrod Size: 5/16 in.
Accessory Bolt Holes Drilled: Yes
Valve Guides Included: Yes
Valve Guide Material: Cast iron
Valve Seats Machined: Yes
Valve Seat Machine Style: 3-angle
Valve Seat Material: Steel
Steam Holes Drilled: No
Oiling Style: Through pushrod
Machined for O-Ring: No
Heat Crossover: No

Would these heads be overkill for a street car? The reason I ask is this, these heads are $1,100.00 a set and I don't want to get more than I really need.

They also have sets that are less expensive with 58cc cumbustion chambers and single valve springs with 160 cfm runners.

I know that there are more expensive sets out there, but i'd like to stretch my 2K as far as I can without being too cheap in the wrong areas.

Any thoughts or ideas??

Thanks

Good guess huh?

The 64cc combustion chambers will give you a low compression ratio. I was looking into these heads for a supercharged motor a while ago. I got very mixed reviews on them. Some people on other forums claimed they had to bring them to a machine shop and have some work done to them to even be usable.

the heads are nice and all but they have a few drawbacks like they are cast iron. thats 40 lbs you could remove from your FRONTEND if you went cast aluminum.

the numbers on those heads arent really anymore impressive than a good set of AFRs or edelbrocks. and these ones are aluminum which in itself, the frontend weight reduction helps out more than the power they add when it comes to launching IMO.

you dont wanna get more than you need, those heads would indeed flow more than you need with the 200cc runners.

in your case, i would put down 1250 for a set of AFRs, they probably flow near to those heads even with smaller runners (165cc) because the AFRs much higher quality, this helps velocity and low end torque too.

Check out the edelbrock performer rpm heads. They have similar specs as the ones dbeck mentioned and cost only about $200 more than the ones you are looking at

Will do, so i should look at 58 cc cumbustion chambers and maybe 160 cfm runners?
