Default Gear Install

I just ordered 3:73 gears and all the install parts needed. What is the best type of rear axle fluid to use? is there a certain brand or type to use thats better than others? How much should i expect to pay to have the gears installed?

Expect about 250$ - 300$ for the install.. And those are good prices.. Most shops around here cost about 350$ or more.. I found one shop, did my 4.10's for 236$ out the door..

There is no real special oil to use unless you are going to go synthetic.. I believe Royal Purple makes synthetic oil for rear ends.... You will also need the limited slip additive which ford makes.... You can find this at a local ford dealer or speed shop... Most of the time the shop installing the gears will already have these things...

85w will do fine... You may also use 80w or 90w.... I always use 85w though........

for those prices, dont rule out doing it yourself. i did mine, but the book can probably explain better than i can. As far as oil goes, synthetic is better than non, but i dont think brand matters too much as long as you have friction modifier.
